This is the last BaconGamesAward for 2009: Perfect Shot!
What i find most impressing is, that it uses only one key for the hole game. The rest is pure gameplay. It is all about timing and estimating. The game is challenging but rewarding and motivating as well. The level design is just right between frustrating and easy. The graphics are awesome and the music is nice. This is another near to perfect game for me, so this deserves the “BaconGamesAward”!
The game mixes a classic harvest, build and destroy strategy game with a modern tower defense game. So you need to manage two resources like in many strategy games and build a network of power stations, harvesters, canons and other “buildings”. Soon the enemy throws waves of spaceships at you trying to defeat you.
The game always challenges you to focus an both, economy and military structures and you are always in a hurry to make your network be efficient. So that you can blast the enemy waves!
This game has very deep gameplay and strategical depths and makes you think and plan a lot while keeping your adrenalin high through the whole game. View full article »
BaconGamesAward is back with Neon Layers!
First of all, this will be a quickie for you . The game is incredibly easy to understand, but delivers a deep and challenging gameplay and it gets very hard soon. The goal is to bring the ball to the “exit”. Gravity forces the ball to fall. You control differently colored layers on which the ball rolls. You can activate and deactivate different layers to control how the ball rolls, falls and bounces. Sounds easy ? It isn’t! It’s all about thinking and timing!
This is the sort of games i like. It is simple, it brings one (new) concept to the gaming world as clear as possible and it provides deep and challenging gameplay. Have fun! View full article »
This is another TOP game you shouldn’t miss: Pandemic 2!
The overall goal of this game is to infect and kill humanity. What an evil game:-) Maybe it’s that what makes the game fun. But for me it is the strategy behind it. Because you are challenged to design either the virus,bacteria or parasite that is supposed too kill mankind. You have many, many options to choose from different symptoms, ways of transmission, traits and resistances. All having different effects on the visibility, lethality and infectivity. Furthermore the humans try to stop the disease by closing airports and harbors, searching for a vaccine etc. I like the deep gameplay and the high replay value. This is a very fun to play cartoon-style Bridge Builder. It has nice graphics but it’s the creative level design that stands out. The levels get quite challenging, but stay fun to play and experiment. I like how the game motivates you with every level to keep playing and find a solution for the new problem. View full article »

This game makes you play a magician who needs to rescue ghost. To do so he can transform himself, to use the Powers of air, earth and his human form. The game has very nice graphics and an appealing setting and story. The puzzles are well thought-out. Nano war is the next top game if found. You Shouldn’t miss it!
In this abstract strategy game you control some sort of “cells” that produce “units”. By sending your units to other cells you can overtake them.
This game has such simple game-mechanics that i can’t believe how much strategic depth and fun there is.

I found another game worth the BaconGamesAward: Shift!
In this outstanding game the player needs to shift between two realities to solve the logic-puzzles. There is the “black” world and the “white” world, and the player can either be black or white. Which is what screws you up and makes you think.

The aim is to make a block fall through a hole. You can roll your block in any direction to find your way through the labyrinth without falling over the edges.
